Merritt, BC - The Business Walk program arrives here on January 29, 2015!
On that day, volunteers from Community Futures Nicola Valley, the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce, and, the City of Merritt, will canvass local businesses to learn about their views on local economic conditions and how a collaborative response may help improve those conditions!
Originating in the USA, the concept of a Business Walk has been practiced for over a decade. It has become an important tool for communicating with and responding to, local businesses. The province, through Small Business BC, is also promoter of Business Walks.
The Merritt Business Walk 2015 is an informal way for community champions and influencers to get in touch with the pulse of the business community, to build deeper relationships, and, to gather the business intelligence needed to stimulate the economy. A consistent set of seven (7) pre-determined questions will be asked of each business. Each survey should take less than five minutes to complete. A business experiencing trouble can be red-flagged for responsive follow up. Once the overall information is gathered, collated and analyzed, broader response strategies and tactics can be identified to support and stimulate the health of local businesses.
“We are excited to complete Merritt’s first-ever citywide Business Walk. The walk will allow us to hear firsthand from our business customers about their concerns and challenges they may be facing. It is a key element in the city’s business retention and expansion efforts,” says Neil Menard, Mayor of Merritt.
“The Business Walk gives us a unique opportunity to prioritize areas of improvement in our community as well as build on our strengths.” said Julie VanKoll, President of the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce.
“Community Futures Nicola Valley is pleased to work with the City and Chamber of Commerce in the design and delivery of this important project and to facilitate a partnership approach ” adds Jean Perog, Chair of CFNV.
A kick-off event for volunteer canvasser from the three organizations will be held on the morning of Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Community Room of City Hall, beginning at 9am – the media is encouraged to attend!
